HALO

Privacy policy

You don't have to worry about your data. Here's what we do with it.

TL;DR

  • We don't sell or share your data with any third parties. We have no reason to, and never will.
  • Halo uses the Apple Secure Enclave to generate a unique, anonymous cryptographic keypair for your specific device. The private key never leaves your hardware, and we only send back the public key to verify your license.
  • Our licensing server only stores your name, email, Mac’s “friendly name” (the device name you give your Mac, such as “John’s MacBook Pro”), license and date of purchase.
This allows the Halo app to show your license status and purchase details within the app's settings, as well as let us help you with your license if you ever need support.
  • All transactions are handled securely by Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card information.

Data collection within the app

Halo is primarily a local application. Halo's preferences, as well as its license, are stored exclusively on your device. We do not sync your data to the cloud, and we do not have access to your personal files.

The only data we collect is the bare minimum required to secure your software license (your name, email, Mac “friendly name” — think of “John’s MacBook Pro” — and an anonymized hardware activation ID generated via the Apple Secure Enclave). This allows us to identify your device among the rest, without needing to rely on anything invasive.

Third parties

We do not use any marketing, analytics, or behavioral tracking services (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixels, no Hotjar).

The only third party we work with is Stripe, our payment processor. They handle the transaction of your license purchase. Stripe acts as an independent controller for that data, and you can review their privacy policy here.

Crash reports

We don't have any crash analytics service built into the app, such as Sentry or Firebase Crashlytics. If your app crashes, we might ask you to provide us a crash report directly exported from Console.app on your Mac.

You're more than welcome to review the crash report yourself and remove any personal information you don't want to share with us before sending it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in our app or legal requirements. If we make significant changes, we will post an update here. You are encouraged to review this page periodically.
